Congratulations on choosing A&C for your uPVC products. We trust that you will enjoy trouble free usage for many years to come.
As with any equipment, to obtain complete satisfaction it is advisable to carry out the simplest of regular maintenance. (Give us a call if you’d like us to help you with this).
Here are our top tips to help you to get the best out of your investment.
uPVC Frame Cleaning
A&C Windows recommend that you wash all frames with a soap and water solution every four months to remove any grime and atmospheric deposits. If required, clean with a non-abrasive cleaner to remove any stubborn blemishes. Take care not to disturb sealants.
It is recommended that any hand jewellery is removed prior to cleaning to avoid scratching your glass. It is recommended that heavy external grime is initially removed with a soap and water solution, before using a glass cleaner to make your glazing sparkle.
Lead Glass Cleaning
In this type of double glazing, lead strips are bonded to the inside of the unit in diamond or square patterns. Take extra care when cleaning leaded lights as excessive pressure might dislodge the lead from the glass surface. Again, the use of warm soapy water and a soft cloth will prove an adequate cleaning method. (Note: external lead will oxidise, this is a natural phenomena and cannot be avoided).
Conservatory and Porch Roof Cleaning
Avoid all solvent based or abrasive cleaners.
Polycarbonate roofing panels fitted to these structures must be cleaned in a similar manner to uPVC frames. A&C windows recommend you clear all gutters of leaves and debris to avoid overflow of rain water and ensure there are no obstructions to the drainage. Wash roof panels with a soap and water solution every four months to remove grime and any atmospheric deposits. Do not walk on conservatory roofs. If you’d like help to maintain your conservatory, porch or any uPVC products, A&C Windows offer an annual maintenance service – give us a call to arrange.
Your A&C double glazed products are designed with an in-built drainage system, comprising of slots within the thresholds that allow any water ingress to flow outside. To ensure an efficient system, these slots must remain unblocked. Periodically, remove dirt, clear drain holes and check drainage operation by flushing through with water.
Water vapour is continually present in the atmosphere. In the home, this natural water content is increased by normal day to day living. For example activity that generates steam such as cooking, bathing, boiling the kettle or even breathing. The water vapour remains undetectable while floating in warm air, but upon contact with cold surfaces (windows, mirrors, tiles etc) condenstaion occurs and the vapour turns to water droplets.
The drive to conserve energy and reduce heat loss has lead to the development of high performance windows, which in effect, seals your home making it more vulnerable to internal condensation. As energy efficient windows are designed to prevent heat escaping, there is also a chance you could experienc condensation on the outside of your window. This basically shows that your windows are doing their job properly and reducing heat loss through the glass. Such condensation will usually dissipate within a short period of time in much the same way as morning dew.
Provide natural ventilation whenever possible by opening a window (bearing in mind security), fitting a ventilator/ extraction unit in the kitchen and bathroom and fitting wall vents to provide air flow.
Maintain some permanent heat in the house during cold weather. Marginally increase the temperature in areas where condensation is a particular problem. If possible, fit radiators under windows to maintain the temperature of the inside pane of your double/triple glazing.
Prevention is better than cure!
Your double or triple glazed windows and doors have been specifically designed to include a variety or security features to protect your home and family against intrusion. We recommend a number of sensible precautions which should be taken to gain full advantage of the security features in-built into your product:
- Never leave a window open when your property is unattended
- For added protection, lock all windows in the closede position and remove the keys
- To provide adequate means of escape in the event of an emergency, we recommend that keys to all windows are located adjacent to the windows, but out of external view
- When leaving the house unattended or at night, ensure door handles are fully lifted and that the keys are turned to throw and lock all deadbolts/hookbolts for full security
We trust you will enjoy your A&C product for many years to come.
